Although I did hear of an Asian American basketball player playing for Harvard in 2009, I’ve now finally & officially jumped on the Jeremy Lin bandwagon. Asian American or not, the guy can PLAY! …and who doesn’t appreciate a good underdog story (in NYC, nonetheless)?

With that said, Jeremy Lin holds a very special place in my heart. We are finally celebrating an Asian American for his skills and talent - and his “American-ness” is very much a part of the story. Why is that important? Well, as an Asian American, no matter how much we try to explain that we’re actually really ‘from Philly’ or ‘speak better English’ than our other American friends, we are often foreignized both in experience and in the media.

Jeremy Lin is an important example of how our culture can begin to move forward from this preconception. I think Rembert Brown captures some of my thoughts best in his recent article for Grantland. Click the TIME magazine cover above for the full story. #Linsanity
